The two bands join Arctic Monkeys as headliners for the Reading/Leeds festival. Bloc Party and Kaiser Chiefs among the many other acts confirmed.

So the daddy of all festivals, which stretches across August Bank Holiday have announced their first slew of acts. Kings Of Leon, Arctic Monkeys and Radiohead headline the bash which, for the first time since 1997 sees the bash do away with the traditional ‘rock day’.

Melvin Benn, managing director of event organiser Festival Republic, blamed the increase on “the collapse of the pound versus the dollar”.

He said: “Most of the major artists that play (Leeds] embark on worldwide tours that are paid in dollar amounts.

“With the pound having collapsed 30 per cent against the dollar, this has hit the budget to a very significant degree and it is in this context that the £20 is unavoidable.

“I do accept that many fans will be concerned that this is a large increase but compared to many of our competitors (we] still represent incredible value.”
