Cent Events is pleased to
announce the addition of the unmistakable
funksters, Kool & The Gang, rock
legend Hugh Cornwell from The
Stranglers, The Commitments, Limahl, and
Jamie Pierce to The Big Gig
Weekend line up, taking place on July
13th- 14th at the Royal Bath
and West Showground, Shepton Mallet.
Kool & The Gang have saved the day by
jumping in at the last minute to replace
Dionne Warwick on Retro Sunday…….and
they promise an unmissable show. Worldwide
hits such as ‘Funky Stuff’, ‘Jungle
Boogie’, ‘Cherish’
and ‘Ladies Night’ have seen
them dominate charts for the last 30 years
and ensure a following of fans on a global
scale! These guys bash out anthems like no
one else so make sure you don’t miss out
when they come to The Big Gig Weekend- its
going to be one hell of a ‘Celebration’!
Joining Kool & The Gang on Retro
Sunday will be the one and only, Hugh
Cornwell from The Stranglers.
With over 20 years experience at the top
of the charts Hugh saw massive success
with The Stranglers between 1977 and 1990
releasing hit albums such as ‘Rattus
Norvegius’, ‘No More Heroes’
and ‘Black & White’. As a
solo artist he was just as successful
releasing the Nosferatu album and
the highly acclaimed ‘Guilty’
album in 1997. Working as a producer and
touring across the world, Hugh is truly
one of rock music’s greats!
Keeping the eighties vibe very much alive,
The Big Gig Weekend is pleased to announce
Limahl to Retro Sunday’s line
up. Having had success as a solo artist,
worked with Kajagoogoo, produced
for chart toppers Kim Wilde and Peter
Andre and starred in the hit musical
“What A Feeling” Limahl
promises not to disappoint!
With over 12 million albums sold
worldwide, The Commitments are
one of soul music’s most successful
bands of all time. Originating from the
worldwide smash hit film of the same name
the nine piece band have recently finished
a sell out tour across Europe and the USA.
An immense stage presence, awesome vocals
and hits such as “Mustang Sally”,
The Commitments guarantee a show to
remember!
Jamie Pearce is a rising star with
serious talent and like a growing number
of UK acts such as Sugababes and Craig
David, is determined not to rush into his
music career. Having spent time in Sweden,
America and the UK honing his talents with
some of the biggest writers and producers
in pop (including those working with acts
such as N*Sync, Destiny’s Child, Will
Smith and Damage!), Jamie is certainly one
to watch for the future. Make sure you can
say you saw him first at this year’s Big
Gig Weekend.
Promising acts to please all the family,
The Big Gig Weekend line up looks set to
be one hell of a party!
Now for most festival’s that line-up
might be enough but not for the Big Gig
Weekend! Not only have we got some of the
biggest names in pop music performing but
the Big Gig Weekend will also be hosting
more entertainment than all this summers
festivals put together!
Making its Somerset debut will be the
world renowned Moscow State Circus.
Performing for over 200 years, the circus
has a reputation for providing family
entertainment second to none! At The Big
Gig Weekend the circus will be performing
a brand new show with a cast of over 35
acrobats, clowns and trapeze artists in a
specially designed big top. So make sure
you don’t miss the circus as it could
well be the last time they tour the UK!
For those of you wanting to hot it up a
bit be sure to check out the funfair and
some of its hair-raising “white knuckle
rides”, whilst for those of you wanting
a cooler alternative make sure you visit
the 2 indoor “ice” rinks. That’s
not forgetting children’s entertainment
for the younger members of the family,
food outlets of every sort and of course
camping and picnic areas!
Then when the sun goes down the night sky
will be transformed with fireworks
displays and the visually stunning
“Balloon
Glow” as previously seen at the
Bristol Balloon Fiesta. Using flames from
their gas burners; the balloons are
illuminated in sequence to music. Set
against the night sky the “Glow” will
guarantee to give the whole family a
sensual experience to remember
